Boko, January 18, 2024 – In a distressing incident, the lifeless body of a wild elephant was discovered in Hahim Golapara, Boko, prompting serious concerns over the escalating human-elephant conflict in the region. The deceased elephant was found lying in the middle of a field by vigilant villagers who promptly reported the discovery to the local forest department.
The tragic event unfolded on the banks of the Singra River, falling within the jurisdiction of the Bondapara Forest Range Office. Preliminary investigations by the forest department point to a grim possibility: the elephant may have succumbed to electric shock, presumably from contact with a power line connected to a nearby banana plantation.
Taking immediate action, the officials of forest department seized electrical wires from the walls of banana plantations in the vicinity, underscoring the urgency of addressing potential hazards contributing to such unfortunate incidents.
This incident follows a similar grim discovery last month when the bodies of two wild elephants were found in the Hahim area of Boko. The surge in wild elephant incidents in the region has resulted in an increased number of human casualties, fueling fear and distress among the local population. There is growing concern about the intensifying conflicts between humans and elephants, highlighting the pressing need for comprehensive measures to mitigate these issues and ensure the safety of both wildlife and residents.
