India Secures Fourth Medal at Paris Olympics, Clinches Bronze in Men’s Hockey
Sports Desk, August 09, 2024: India has clinched its fourth medal at the Paris Olympics, with the men’s hockey team securing a bronze medal after a tense 2-1 victory over Spain. This achievement marks India’s consecutive bronze medal in the sport at the Olympics.
The match, held on August 8, saw Spain initially take the lead through a penalty stroke by Marc Miralles. Despite a strong challenge from Spain, including a late penalty corner, India held their ground to close out the final moments of the game successfully.
Harmanpreet Singh was the standout performer for India, scoring both goals for the team. His first goal came in the second quarter, converting a penalty corner to level the score. He then scored again from another penalty corner awarded after an appeal for a backstick infringement.
Spanish efforts to regain the lead were thwarted as they had a goal disallowed from a penalty corner. Despite some near misses from both sides, India maintained their advantage until the final whistle.
Following the match, the Indian head coach, who took charge during a challenging period, urged his players to remain humble despite their success. His guidance has led the team to a commendable finish at the Paris Olympics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the team, expressing his sentiments on the social media platform X: “A feat that will be cherished for generations to come! The Indian Hockey team shines bright at the Olympics, bringing home the Bronze Medal! This is even more special because it is their second consecutive medal at the Olympics.
