Major Drug Seizure in Barak Valley: Over ₹120 Crore Worth of Narcotics Seized
Guwahati, August 09, 2024: In a significant breakthrough against narcotics, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam and Karimganj Police have seized a substantial quantity of illegal drugs in Barak Valley. Two separate operations in Karimganj and Cachar led to the seizure of a large haul of narcotics.
In Karimganj, law enforcement officers recovered 3,50,000 YABA tablets and 1.3 kg of heroin, with an estimated market value of ₹115 crore. Four individuals were apprehended during the operation conducted at Karimganj Bypass.
Simultaneously, Cachar Police intercepted a shipment of 18,000 YABA tablets, valued at ₹5.5 crore, which was being transported from a neighboring state. One suspect was arrested at Kathal Road, Silchar.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the operation, stating on the social media platform ‘X,’ “These major seizures will firmly boost our war against drugs. Good job Assam Police. #AssamAgainstDrugs.”
This coordinated effort underscores the state’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and highlights the ongoing struggle against narcotic substances in the region.
