Assam Police Uncover Suspicious Items During Extensive Search on Independence Day Eve
Guwahati, August 15, 2024: The 78th Independence Day celebrations in Assam were marred by a bomb scare on Thursday. Assam Police conducted an urgent and extensive search operation across the state following the discovery of suspicious items.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh reported that Assam Police found and examined several “suspicious articles” in Guwahati and other locations. According to Singh, these articles, found at two sites in Guwahati, were opened by the Bomb Disposal Squad. Although the items lacked ignition devices, they contained circuits and batteries. The substances inside are now being analyzed through forensic and chemical tests.
In addition to Guwahati, similar suspicious items were identified and safely disposed of in Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Nalbari, and Nagaon. Authorities have initiated a thorough legal investigation into the matter to ensure public safety.
