Landslip Forces Cancellation of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Services
Guwahati, August 17, 2024: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the cancellation of Narrow Gauge (NG) train services between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri due to landslips. The disruptions, occurring at multiple locations between Rangtong and Kurseong, have rendered the tracks unsafe for operation.
Two passenger trains have been directly affected by the landslides. Train No. 52538, the Darjeeling-New Jalpaiguri Passenger, will not run from August 18 to September 1, 2024. Similarly, Train No. 52539, the New Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling Passenger, will be out of service from August 19 to September 2, 2024.
The iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a significant tourist attraction, and its temporary closure is expected to impact both local commuters and visitors. NFR authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will restore services once the tracks are deemed safe.
Passengers are advised to stay updated on further developments by visiting the NFR’s official communication channels and IRCTC websites.
