Accused in Dhing Minor’s Gang-Rape Case Drowns While Fleeing Police Custody
Guwahati, August 24, 2024: In a shocking incident, one of the accused in the gang-rape of a minor girl in Assam’s Dhing died after drowning while attempting to escape police custody. The police recovered the body from a local pond on Saturday, drawing attention to the ongoing investigation.
The accused, identified as Tafajjul Islam, reportedly tried to flee from custody during a crime scene visit. While attempting to escape, he fell into a nearby pond. Despite efforts to save him, the police were unable to rescue him in time. His body was later retrieved by the authorities.
Nagaon Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka provided details about the incident. He stated, “The accused was brought to the crime scene for investigation purposes. During the visit, he suddenly pulled away from the officer and fell into a pond. We quickly secured the area and called in the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Unfortunately, his body was recovered after some time.”
The search for the other suspects involved in the case is still ongoing. The police are actively working to apprehend them and bring them to justice, ensuring that all individuals responsible for the crime face the consequences.
