Assam Cabinet Introduces Comprehensive Insurance Scheme for State Employees
Guwahati, September 04, 2024: In a bid to better protect state government employees and their families, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has rolled out a new insurance scheme that promises significant financial support in the event of accidents or sudden deaths. This scheme, approved by the Assam cabinet today, ensures that insurance premiums will be automatically deposited into employees’ salary accounts through agreements with banks.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lakhimpur, Sarma stressed the importance of this initiative, which is designed to provide a safety net for state employees who may face life-threatening risks on the job. “Today, we made a crucial decision to secure the well-being of our government employees. Many of them encounter serious dangers daily, leading to untimely deaths or disabling injuries. With this scheme, their families will receive direct financial assistance, giving them the support they need during difficult times,” Sarma said.
Under the new insurance plan, if an employee suffers an accidental death or permanent disability, their family will receive Rs 1 crore. For partial disabilities, the scheme offers Rs 80 lakh. Additionally, if an employee passes away due to illness, the family will receive an extra Rs 10 lakh. The coverage extends to accidents caused by road mishaps, fires, floods, and other disasters.
“This comprehensive insurance is a lifeline for our employees and their loved ones,” Sarma added, noting that these benefits are in addition to other support provided by the state government.
