Assam Government Announces ₹229.955 Crore for Higher Educational Institutions on Teachers’ Day 2024
Guwahati, September 06, 2024: In a significant push towards strengthening the education sector, the Assam government has allocated ₹229.955 crore to improve higher educational institutions under the Prime Minister’s Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. This announcement was made on the occasion of Teachers’ Day 2024, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering educational growth.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed the details of the funding during the celebrations, which will enhance universities and colleges across Assam. The largest portion of the grant, ₹100 crore, is earmarked for the establishment of a Multidisciplinary Education and Research University at Dibrugarh University. An additional ₹20 crore has been allocated to promote gender inclusion and equity, supporting five colleges in Baksa and nine in Cachar district.
Moreover, 14 colleges will receive a total of ₹69.955 crore to strengthen their infrastructure and resources. Cotton University and Bodoland University will each receive ₹20 crore for further development, accounting for a total of ₹40 crore for university enhancement.
Alongside the funding announcement, 13 outstanding educators were honored with the prestigious State Award to Teacher 2024, recognizing their exceptional dedication and contributions to Assam’s education system. The awardees were lauded for their commitment to nurturing the next generation and advancing academic standards.
