Assam Police Arrest Two Accused of Dhing Rape Case After Weeks of Search
Desk Report, September 07, 2024: In a major breakthrough, Assam Police have arrested the two main suspects in the Dhing rape case. The accused, Golap Uddin and Faridul Islam, had been on the run for over two weeks. One of them was arrested in Nagaland, while the other was apprehended in Morigaon.
Nagaon Police launched a search operation immediately after the rape incident in Dhing. Since then, both suspects managed to evade capture. They are now being questioned at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Nagaon.
Earlier, Tafazul Islam, the prime accused in the case, died during an attempted escape. He had been arrested on August 23 as the third suspect. During an early-morning investigation on Saturday, he tried to flee by jumping into a pond near the crime scene. Despite a two-hour rescue effort, he was declared dead after the operation.
