Assam Police Intercept Truck Smuggling 26 Live Cattle; Suspect Arrested at Jorabat Crossing
Guwahati, September 10, 2024: Assam Police intercepted a truck smuggling 26 live cattle near Jorabat crossing last night. The vehicle, bearing the registration number AS26 AC 0635, was halted by a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) under Basistha Police Station. The truck was attempting to move the cattle into Meghalaya.
Following the interception, the driver, identified as Asmat Ali (35) from Dalgaon, was arrested. Authorities took swift action to prevent the illegal transport of cattle, ensuring the safety of the animals. This highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to curb cattle smuggling in the region.
Legal procedures have been initiated against Ali, and further investigations are underway. The Assam Police’s vigilance continues to play a critical role in addressing cattle smuggling at border points, ensuring the law is enforced.
