Guwahati Police Busts Online Betting Racket at Assam Cup Cricket, 12 Arrested
Guwahati, September 11, 2024: A police team from Central Guwahati’s Paltan Bazaar Police Station busted an online betting racket during the ongoing Assam Cup T20 Cricket at Nehru Stadium. Officers apprehended individuals caught actively betting on matches, leading to 12 arrests.
The arrested bettors are:
1. Navneet Mishra (27), Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh
2. Aman Rajak (22), Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
3. Ankush Rana (21), Vasantkunj, Delhi
4. Arbin Singh (24), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
5. Rubi Gupta (25), Maligaon
6. Niraj Mishra (36), Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh
7. Shivam Kakkar (22), Rohini, Delhi
8. Debaprasad Bhoi (29), Madhupatna, Odisha
9. Mehboob Alam (27), Jamtara, Jharkhand
10. Monzur Ahmed (18), Geetanagar
11. Rashid Ahmed (32), Kampur, Nagaon
12. Nur Nabi (30), Koyakuchi, Barpeta
The police action came after monitoring suspicious activities linked to online gambling during the cricket matches. This bust is seen as a significant step toward curbing illegal betting activities in Guwahati.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the racket. The arrested individuals face charges under the relevant sections of the law, and further arrests could follow as the probe expands.
