Assam Cabinet Approves Key Projects to Boost Development and Infrastructure
Guwahati, September 14, 2024: The Assam Cabinet has taken significant steps to boost infrastructure and improve governance. Several key decisions, including measures to reduce court case pendency and develop sports and education, were made during a recent meeting.
81,000 Court Cases Withdrawn to Reduce Pendency:
In a move aimed at easing pressure on the judiciary, the Assam government has withdrawn 81,000 petty and minor criminal cases. The amendment to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) allows the withdrawal of such cases across subordinate courts. This decision, effective as of March 2024, aims to reduce court workloads and decongest jails, enabling courts to focus on serious offences.
Dassault Systemes to Invest ₹200 Crore in Assam Centre of Excellence:
Dassault Systèmes India Pvt Ltd is set to invest ₹200 crore in a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Assam. The CoE will offer specialized training for students and employees in Aerospace, Defence, and Electric Vehicle industries. This initiative will train 3,000 engineering graduates in fields like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Defence technology, enhancing Assam’s reputation as a hub for advanced engineering.
Sports Infrastructure in Kokrajhar to Get a Boost:
The Assam Cabinet approved the construction of a world-class sports stadium in Kokrajhar at a cost of ₹107.89 crore. The facility will feature a 13,500-seater football stadium, an Olympic-standard aquatic centre, an indoor stadium, and an 8-lane synthetic running track. The stadium is expected to serve as a multi-sport complex, hosting cricket, hockey, volleyball, and more.
Renewable Energy: Assam Approves Wind Solar Hybrid Power:
In an effort to address peak-hour power shortages, Assam will procure 100 MW of Wind Solar Hybrid Power from NTPC. This renewable energy project, approved by the Cabinet, will help boost the state’s energy capacity and ensure a steady power supply during peak demand.
New Flyover in Guwahati to Ease Traffic Congestion:
To improve traffic management in Guwahati, the Cabinet approved the construction of a new flyover at Downtown Junction. The project, costing ₹111.65 crore, includes multiple elements like service roads, drainage, and parking facilities. It is expected to significantly reduce congestion on GS Road near Downtown Hospital.
Assam State Zoo to Undergo Modernization:
The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati will undergo a major modernization project at a cost of ₹362 crore. The upgrade will bring the zoo up to international standards, enhancing wildlife living conditions and improving medical and quarantine facilities. The modernization is expected to increase tourist numbers.
Chief Minister Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA) Benefits 25,238 People:
The CMAAA initiative approved financial aid for 25,238 beneficiaries. Under this scheme, 174 professional candidates will receive ₹2.5 lakh, while 25,064 general category candidates will get ₹1 lakh. The beneficiaries will undergo a mandatory 3-day training program before receiving the first tranche of funds.
These decisions mark a significant step in Assam’s journey toward improved infrastructure, education, and economic growth.
