Security Forces Seize Illegal Arms and Explosives in Major Operation in Jiribam District, Manipur
Desk Report, September 16, 2024: In a major security operation, forces conducted an extensive search in Jiribam District, Manipur. The operation, focused on Mongbung Village, led to the discovery of illegal arms, ammunition, and explosives. The action aimed to combat insurgent activities and disrupt illegal arms networks in the area.
During the search, security personnel seized a .32 caliber pistol, two magazines, and 31 live rounds. They also recovered 16 improvised “Pompi bombs” and 761 empty cartridges. Along with these, a plastic bag filled with gunpowder, a two-foot-long safety fuse, and a walkie-talkie with a charger were found.
Authorities emphasized that these ongoing operations are crucial for dismantling dangerous arms networks. The recovered items have been handed over to the police for further investigation, as efforts continue to track down those involved in stockpiling weapons.
Security forces have assured the public that monitoring in the region will intensify. Additional searches are expected as part of a larger crackdown on illegal weapons and explosives. They also urged locals to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to help maintain peace in the area.
