Ludhiana and Assam Police Dismantle Cyber Fraud Network: Two Arrested in Guwahati for ₹7 Crore Scam
Guwahati: The Ludhiana Police, in collaboration with the Assam Police, successfully arrested two suspects involved in a ₹7 crore fraud case. The suspects, Atanu Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary, were apprehended in the Dispur area of Guwahati. This major breakthrough took place after the complainant, SP Oswal, a prominent textile industrialist and Padma Bhushan awardee, reported the fraud at a Ludhiana police station.
According to the authorities, the arrest followed a detailed investigation that lasted over a month. SP Oswal had alleged that a gang of fraudsters had duped him of ₹7 crore, prompting the Ludhiana Police to launch a thorough probe. With assistance from the Assam Police, they were able to trace and arrest the suspects in Guwahati.
In addition to the arrests, the police recovered ₹5.25 crore, multiple ATM cards, and mobile phones. These items are believed to be linked to the fraud. Along with these arrests, seven more individuals have been nominated in connection with the case, indicating a broader investigation is underway.
Assam DGP GP Singh praised the successful operation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We are always there. Our association with @PunjabPoliceInd has stood the test of time.” His statement highlights the strong cooperation between the Assam and Punjab police forces.
The case remains under investigation as authorities aim to uncover the full extent of the fraud network. Further arrests are anticipated as police continue their efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
