Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved a significant initiative, allocating ₹345.74 crores to provide scooters to 48,673 meritorious students in the state. This decision aims to promote academic excellence and support deserving students of Class XII under the Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, part of the Pragyan Bharati Scheme.
Under this scheme, the scooters will be awarded to girl students who scored 60% and above and to boy students who achieved 75% and above in their Higher Secondary (HS) examinations. The initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to rewarding and motivating the state’s bright young minds, enhancing their mobility, and easing their journey to college life.
The Cabinet’s approval means that 48,673 eligible students will receive the scooters in 2024. This move aims to provide more independence to these students, helping them pursue their higher education goals without transportation challenges.
