BJP Poised for Third Term in Haryana as Congress-NC Alliance Leads in Jammu and Kashmir
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form the government in Haryana for the third consecutive time. With 47 seats already secured and one more seat leading, the BJP has managed to hold off a Congress comeback, despite anti-incumbency sentiment. The latest Election Commission of India (ECI) trends confirm this political outcome.
On the other side, the Congress has won 36 seats and leads in one, while independent candidates took three seats, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) secured two. Prominent candidates like Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed victories. Independent candidate Savitri Jindal also emerged as a winner.
However, some prominent candidates faced defeat. INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala lost to Congress candidate Bharat Singh Beniwal by a margin of 15,000 votes. Additionally, JJP’s Dushyant Chautala lost to BJP’s Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri by a significant margin of 41,018 votes. Meanwhile, Congress’ Vinesh Phogat made an impressive political debut, winning the Julana seat by defeating BJP’s Yogesh Kumar by 6,015 votes.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance crossed the halfway mark, winning 49 out of the 90 seats and is set to form the government. Out of these, 42 seats were claimed by the National Conference, six by Congress, and one by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI (M). National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah announced that Omar Abdullah would become the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, following the alliance’s strong performance.
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, marking the first polls in the valley since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The voter turnout was recorded at 63.88%, according to the Election Commission of India. The vote counting began at 8 AM today, amid heightened security measures.
Both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir are set to see new governments form after intense political battles, reshaping the future of these regions.
