Assam Vigilance Team Catches Excise Superintendent Taking Bribe Near Janata Bhawan
Guwahati: The Directorate of Vigilance, Assam, caught Partha Hazarika, Office Superintendent of the Excise Department, red-handed for accepting a bribe. The incident took place near the main gate of Janata Bhawan, Dispur.
Hazarika was trapped after he took Rs. 24,500 from a complainant. The money was meant to expedite the process of issuing a bar license. The complainant, dissatisfied with the illegal demand, alerted the vigilance authorities.
A planned operation led to Hazarika’s arrest moments after he accepted the bribe. This incident has raised concerns about corruption in Assam’s government offices, especially in crucial departments like excise. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
The vigilance team’s swift action has been praised, with hopes that such efforts will help curb corruption in the state.
