Priyanka Gandhi Enters Electoral Politics, Files Nomination for Wayanad By-Election
In a major political move, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi officially filed her nomination for the upcoming Wayanad by-election on Wednesday. This marks her debut in electoral politics. The by-election in Kerala’s Wayanad became necessary after her brother, Rahul Gandhi, chose to vacate the seat to retain Raebareli, his stronghold, following his success in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Before submitting her papers, Priyanka, accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, lead a roadshow in Wayanad. The event aims to demonstrate the party’s enthusiasm and support in the region ahead of the crucial election.
Rahul Gandhi voiced his strong support for his sister’s candidacy, stating, “The people of Wayanad have always been close to my heart. I am confident that Priyanka will be a strong advocate for their needs and an influential voice in Parliament.”
Priyanka faces notable competition from BJP’s Navya Haridas and senior CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri, who is representing the Left Democratic Front (LDF). The voting is scheduled for November 13, with the results to be declared after counting on November 23.
Filing my nomination for the Wayanad by-election today was a moment filled with emotion. The love you’ve shown to Rahul Ji, and now to me, is something I carry with me every step of the way.
