BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das Files Nomination for Dholai By-Election Amid Show of Strength
BJP’s show of strength was on full display as Nihar Ranjan Das, the party’s candidate for the Dholai by-election, submitted his nomination papers in Cachar on Thursday. The event, marked by the presence of high-ranking BJP leaders, including Guardian Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, saw a large turnout of supporters. Held at Town Club Maidan in Silchar, the nomination rally witnessed Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and other BJP stalwarts confidently stating that the people of Dholai would vote for change, aiming for Nihar Ranjan Das to win by a margin of 70,000 votes.
Minister Barua emphasized that the election of Das would bring both an MP and MLA from the BJP for the Dholai constituency, enhancing development efforts. The current MP for the region has been actively involved in promoting the development of Dholai, and Nihar Ranjan Das is expected to continue this work by securing the MLA post with significant voter support.
Several key political figures accompanied Das during the nomination filing, including Rajya Prabhari Mithilesh Trivedi, Lakhipur MLA Kashik Roy, Silchar MLA Dwipayan Chakraborty, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah, BJP District President Bimalendu Roy, and Amitabh Roy.
However, the election is set to be a competitive one, with independent candidates Amio Kanti Das and Amalendu Das also filing their nominations. Amio Kanti Das, a long-time BJP worker, voiced his dissatisfaction with the party for denying him a ticket for the Dholai seat. He criticized the BJP for selecting an “outsider” candidate, leading to growing discontent among Dholai voters. According to Amio Kanti Das, the BJP has not contributed significantly to the region’s development in the past, and he is confident that his independent campaign, focused on local development, will propel him to victory.
Similarly, independent candidate Amalendu Das expressed confidence in his chances, stating that the people of Dholai were firmly behind him and that he was certain of winning the election.
The Dholai by-election has thus set the stage for a three-way contest, with BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das facing strong challenges from Amio Kanti Das and Amalendu Das. All candidates are optimistic about their chances, and the electorate’s decision will be pivotal in shaping the future of Dholai.
