Guwahati: In a powerful display of unity and patriotism, the city of Guwahati hosted the Run For Unity program today in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which is observed annually on October 31. The event attracted a remarkable participation of 3,000 police personnel from the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, along with dignitaries and officials from across Assam.
Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Nandita Gorlosa flagged off the ceremonial run in Guwahati, joined by Assam’s Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and several high-ranking officials. The presence of such distinguished figures underscored the significance of the event, emphasizing Sardar Patel’s enduring legacy of national integration and unity.
Starting from a designated point in the city, participants of Run For Unity moved along a planned route through the streets of Guwahati, embodying a spirit of camaraderie and dedication to national unity. The event aimed to raise awareness about the contributions of Sardar Patel, often hailed as the “Iron Man of India,” who played a pivotal role in unifying India’s diverse states post-independence.
The day’s proceedings were marked by an address from Minister Gorlosa, who highlighted the importance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, a day instituted to honor Patel’s vision of a unified India. “It is both a privilege and a responsibility to uphold the ideals that Sardar Patel championed,” she stated. “This gathering of police personnel and the enthusiastic support from Assam’s citizens truly reflects the unity he dreamed of.”
In line with Patel’s legacy, the Run For Unity event aimed not only to promote physical fitness but also to strengthen communal harmony and inspire the younger generation with Patel’s ideals of strength and integration.
