Mobile Medical Units Enhance Healthcare Accessibility in Assam’s Tea Gardens
In Assam, the state’s healthcare system is making a significant leap forward by introducing Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in tea gardens. These units are designed to bring healthcare directly to the doorsteps of workers in remote areas.
The initiative, led by the state government, involves 80 MMUs that cover 514 tea gardens every month. The goal is to provide free healthcare services, including free drugs, diagnostics, and medical consultations, ensuring that workers have access to vital health services without the need to travel long distances.
The mobile units are equipped with essential medical facilities such as a dispensary, pathology testing, and treatment areas. This innovative approach aims to improve the overall health and wellbeing of workers who often face challenges in accessing basic healthcare services.
The mobile units are part of a broader effort to ensure “Jan Arogya” (public health) in tea garden communities. By making healthcare more accessible, the initiative helps address the healthcare gap in rural areas, offering a vital lifeline to workers and their families.
This program is expected to continue expanding, with the government aiming to increase coverage and provide even better services to tea garden workers across Assam.
