Mizoram Police Seize Over 29 Kg Methamphetamine in Major Drug Bust
In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drugs, Mizoram Police have seized over 29 kg of suspected methamphetamine in a meticulously planned operation. A team comprising CID (Special Branch) and Special Narcotics Police Station personnel intercepted a Scorpio vehicle (Registration No. MZ 01 AB 5750) at Zemabawk Beraw Lui, Mizoram.
The vehicle, traveling from Zokhawthar, was found to contain 30 concealed packets of suspected methamphetamine. The drugs, weighing 29.289 kg, were hidden in a false chamber located under the middle and rear-row seats. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs. 380.757 lakh.
The operation led to the arrest of Tlangthanmawia, a resident of Tahan, E-Group, Myanmar, at Tawngtai Mual, Zemabawk. Authorities registered a case under Special Narcotics Police Station No. 47/24 dated November 28, 2024, citing Sections 22(c) and 25 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and Section 14A of the Foreigners Act for further legal action.
The investigation is ongoing, focusing on identifying backward and forward linkages in the drug network. Mizoram Police’s relentless efforts reaffirm their commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and safeguarding public safety.
