441 Public Services Now Guaranteed Under Assam’s Right to Public Services
Guwahati: In a historic move to boost governance transparency, Assam introduced the State Commission for Right to Public Services yesterday. Citizens can now demand timely delivery of 441 government services, backed by a clear grievance redressal system.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the commission at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. This initiative underscores Assam’s commitment to citizen-first governance and aims to make public services more accessible and efficient.
During the event, Dr. Sarma unveiled the commission’s handbook and launched its official website. The handbook outlines the framework for public service rights, explaining how citizens can claim services within stipulated time frames. It also details mechanisms to ensure accountability if services are delayed or denied.
The Right to Public Services Act offers a significant step toward reducing bureaucratic delays. The commission will work to uphold this framework and foster a citizen-centric governance model, ensuring no one faces unnecessary hurdles while accessing public services.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s vision of transparency and accountability. He added that the commission embodies the principle of “Citizen First,” empowering individuals to seek services without fear or bias.
With the handbook and website now available, citizens can learn about their rights and responsibilities under the act. The move also aims to strengthen trust between the government and the public, highlighting a shared commitment to improving governance quality.
