Assam Cabinet Expansion: Four New Ministers Join Under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Leadership

Guwahati: In a significant development, the Assam cabinet welcomed four new ministers during a swearing-in ceremony held on Saturday. The event took place at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administering the oath. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the ceremony.

The expanded cabinet features diverse representation from various regions and communities of Assam. Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul, both from Barak Valley, have been inducted, marking a stronger voice for the region. Additionally, Rupesh Gowala, a leader from the tea tribe community, and Prasanta Phukan from Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh, were also sworn in as ministers.

This reshuffle aims to balance regional and community representation in the government, addressing local aspirations. The inclusion of Barak Valley ministers underscores the government’s intent to ensure equitable representation from southern Assam. Similarly, Rupesh Gowala’s appointment highlights the administration’s focus on the welfare of the tea tribe community, a key demographic in Assam.

Prasanta Phukan’s induction reinforces Upper Assam’s political prominence within the state cabinet. His addition is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the government’s reach in Dibrugarh and neighboring areas.

The ceremony marks another milestone in Chief Minister Sarma’s administration as it works to integrate voices from all parts of the state. Political analysts view the expansion as a calculated effort to address regional demands while broadening the cabinet’s appeal.
