Former IPS Officer Deboraj Upadhaya Named APSC Chairman
Guwahati: The Assam government has appointed Deboraj Upadhaya as the Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). An official notification issued on January 7 confirmed his selection to lead the state’s recruitment body.
Deboraj Upadhaya, a former IPS officer, replaces Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, an ex-IAS officer, as the Chairman of APSC. Known for his exemplary service, Upadhaya is a recipient of the prestigious President’s Police Medal for distinguished service. He previously held the position of Inspector General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the Assam Police.
Additionally, two Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers, Mrigesh N Barua and Bhaskar Phukon, have been inducted as members of the APSC. This reshuffle aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the commission.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya is set to administer the oath to Deboraj Upadhaya in a formal ceremony. His extensive experience in law enforcement and administration is expected to bring a renewed focus to the state’s recruitment processes.
The Assam Public Service Commission plays a critical role in recruiting talent for various state government roles. Upadhaya’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to further strengthen the commission’s operations.
