Assam Cabinet Highlights Transformative Decisions for Growth and Welfare
Guwahati: On January 16, 2025, the Assam Cabinet, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, announced a series of impactful initiatives to drive development and welfare across the state. These decisions, taken during a high-level meeting, aim to empower women entrepreneurs, enhance infrastructure, and ensure effective resource management.
A major highlight is the approval of ₹2,000 crore for implementing the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni (MMMUA) and other Atmanirbhar initiatives for the financial year 2024-25. This ambitious project aims to promote women’s entrepreneurship across Assam, fostering self-reliance and economic growth.
- The Cabinet also approved guidelines for the scheme’s implementation.
- The ceremonial distribution of seed capital under this initiative is set to commence in April 2025.
The Cabinet sanctioned ₹401.50 crore under SOPD-G funds to ensure the uninterrupted development of the Bodoland Territorial Region. These funds will be utilized by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for executing critical developmental projects, ensuring growth and prosperity in the region.
To improve the management and functionality of Anganwadi Centers (AWCs), the Assam Cabinet approved guidelines for constituting Anganwadi Center Management Committees. This initiative aims to ensure the efficient functioning of AWCs, which are crucial for child development and welfare programs across the state.
The Cabinet approved the enhancement of the state’s share capital in Assam Power Generation Company Ltd from ₹3,000 crore to ₹6,000 crore. This investment is expected to bolster the state’s power infrastructure and ensure a stable energy supply to support Assam’s growing industrial and residential demands.
These decisions reflect the Assam government’s strategic focus on inclusive development, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure enhancement. With these initiatives, the state is poised for significant progress in multiple sectors, aiming to uplift its citizens’ standard of living and promote sustainable growth.
