Guwahati Police Bust ATM Fraud Gang, Arrest Five; Cash, Vehicles, and ATM Cards Seized
Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, Guwahati Police busted an ATM fraud gang operating in the city. A team from Basistha Police Station conducted the operation in Panjabari, leading to the arrest of five individuals. The accused, identified as Asif Iqbal Hussain (20), Abdula Azad (20), Dewan Azlan Hariz (20), Ariful Islam (26), and Sahil Ahmed (21), targeted elderly citizens to obtain their ATM cards fraudulently.
The gang used deceptive tactics to con unsuspecting victims and carry out unauthorized financial transactions. The police team seized several items during the operation, including 17 ATM cards, ₹11,000 in cash, a Five Dirham note, three Ngultrum notes, three mobile phones, a bike with registration number AS 15 N 5640, and a car with registration number AS 01 FR 9597.
Authorities believe the gang operated across multiple areas and specifically chose elderly individuals as their primary targets. The operation highlights the effectiveness of Guwahati Police in combating financial fraud and protecting citizens.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to trace any additional links to similar crimes. This crackdown is expected to send a strong message to criminal networks attempting to exploit vulnerable individuals.
