Guwahati Police Rescue Protected Tokay Gecko in Beharbari; One Arrested
Guwahati, January 24, 2025: In a significant operation, the Guwahati Police from Basistha Police Station rescued a protected Tokay Gecko during a raid at Seuj Nagar, Beharbari. The operation unfolded as part of the ongoing efforts to curb wildlife trafficking in the region.
The raid led to the apprehension of an 18-year-old suspect, Raju Ray. Officials seized a mobile phone and a scooty bearing the registration number AS 01 FA 4228. These items are believed to have been used in the illegal activity.
The Tokay Gecko is a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act. It is highly sought after in illegal markets, making it a target for wildlife traffickers. The rescue of the gecko highlights the authorities’ dedication to preserving biodiversity and combating wildlife crimes.
