Five Distinguished Individuals from Assam Conferred Padma Awards 2025

January 26, 2025: On Republic Day, a prestigious announcement was made that five eminent individuals from Assam have been selected for the Padma Awards 2025, one of the highest civilian honors in India. This recognition is given to those who have demonstrated outstanding and distinguished service in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, medicine, literature, and education.

Among the honorees, Jatin Goswami has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the field of art. Goswami is widely recognized for his exceptional artistry and commitment to promoting Assamese culture on both national and international platforms.

Anil Kumar Boro, who has made significant contributions to literature and education, has been conferred the Padma Shri. His work in the development of Assamese literature and educational initiatives has left a lasting impact. Similarly, Joynacharan Bathari, another recipient of the Padma Shri in the field of art, is celebrated for his creative prowess and his efforts to preserve traditional Assamese art forms.

Gita Upadhyay, a stalwart in the field of literature and education, also received the Padma Shri. Her literary works have touched the hearts of many, and her role in shaping educational frameworks in Assam has been transformative. Lastly, Reba Kanta Mahanta, who has excelled in the realm of art, was also honored with the Padma Shri for his lifetime dedication to the arts.

These remarkable individuals have made immense contributions to their respective fields, and their work is celebrated across Assam and beyond. The Padma Awards are a testament to their excellence, and their recognition highlights the rich cultural heritage and intellectual legacy of the state.

The awards will be presented by the President of India in a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, typically held around March or April each year. For 2025, a total of 139 Padma Awards will be conferred, comprising 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri Awards. This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of fields and demonstrate the country’s ongoing commitment to honoring exceptional talent.
