Cachar Police, BSF Seize 10,000 YABA Tablets Worth ₹3 Crore Near Indo-Bangladesh Border

March 01, 2025: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), busted a narcotics network near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Leverputa, Katigorah, Cachar district. The operation led to the seizure of 10,000 YABA tablets, valued at approximately ₹3 crore in the illegal market.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement authorities launched the operation to intercept the illicit consignment. The successful bust is a testament to Assam’s intensified efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics along the porous border regions.

Following the seizure, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform ‘X’ to commend the efforts of the Cachar Police and BSF. He stated, “In Assam, it’s the era of fabs, not YABA tabs! We won’t allow drugs to proliferate.” His remarks reinforced the state government’s strong stance against the drug menace.

Authorities believe that the YABA tablets, a highly addictive methamphetamine-based drug, were being smuggled from Myanmar via Bangladesh into India. The Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam has long been exploited by traffickers due to its strategic location, making strict vigilance and proactive policing crucial in combating narcotics trade.

Assam has been witnessing a series of successful anti-drug operations in recent years under the government’s “War on Drugs” initiative. The latest seizure underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies in making the state drug-free.
