Assam to Launch Its Own OTT Platform to Promote Cinema, Literature, and Folk Traditions

Guwahati; March 11, 2025: The Assam government has unveiled plans to launch its own Over-the-Top (OTT) platform. The initiative aims to archive and showcase Assamese cinema, literature, folk traditions, and documentaries. With this move, the government seeks to preserve and globally promote the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced the initiative while presenting the Assam state budget for 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly. Alongside the OTT platform, the government introduced several cultural initiatives to support and uplift traditional art forms and artists.

To recognize the contributions of Udasin Bhakats in Sattras, the government has proposed a monthly allowance of ₹1,500 for them. Additionally, a state-wide cultural competition, Sanskritik Mahasangram, will be held. This event will provide a platform for young talents to showcase their skills in various music genres.

Another key initiative is a mass recitation of Assam’s State Anthem, ‘O Mur Apunar Desh’. Over one crore citizens are expected to participate simultaneously from their respective locations, making it a historic event.

The government also plans to highlight Bodo folk traditions on a global stage. A grand performance of Bagurumba and Bordoisikla dances will be organized for national and international audiences. This initiative aims to showcase Assam’s diverse and vibrant cultural heritage to the world.

By launching an exclusive OTT platform and implementing these cultural projects, Assam is taking a significant step toward preserving and promoting its artistic traditions on a global scale.
