Union Home Minister Amit Shah Inaugurates Lachit Barphukan Police Academy’s New Building in Assam

Guwahati; March 16, 2025: Assam marked a historic milestone as Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. This event highlights the state’s commitment to modernizing law enforcement. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the ceremony, reaffirming Assam’s focus on smart policing and advanced training for law enforcement personnel.

The academy is set for a major transformation, with development projects worth ₹1,024 crore. The first phase covers 1,022 bighas (340 acres) and includes a newly inaugurated ₹167 crore five-storey building. This facility features state-of-the-art smart classrooms designed to enhance police training. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was also present at the event.

Amit Shah reviewed the academy’s master plan, which outlines future expansions. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for smart policing in India. The modernization of Assam Police, driven by advanced training and infrastructure, prepares law enforcement for evolving security challenges.

With cutting-edge technology and upgraded facilities, the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy sets a new benchmark for police training in India. The investment in infrastructure and skill development ensures that Assam’s police force is equipped to handle modern security threats effectively.
