Assam Government Introduces Major Reforms to Ensure Transparent NEET Exams

Guwahati; April 15, 2025: In a move to ensure complete transparency in NEET examinations, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a video conference with the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and his team. The meeting followed a confidential inquiry by Assam Police. This probe raised concerns that some students from private exam centres in the state had secured unusually high scores.

To address the issue, the Assam Government proposed a detailed plan of action aimed at preventing malpractices. These measures focus on strengthening the integrity of the exam system and restoring public trust.

Key Measures Proposed by the Assam Government:

  1. Government Centres Only: From now on, all NEET examination centres in Assam will be set up only in government or government-aided colleges.
  2. Secure Exam Material Handling: Strong safeguards will be enforced for the movement, distribution, and storage of exam papers to avoid tampering.
  3. Aadhar and Biometric Checks: Every candidate will undergo Aadhar-based and biometric verification at their examination centres.
  4. CCTV Surveillance: Full-time CCTV coverage will be ensured at every exam venue for strict monitoring.
  5. Standard Operating Procedure for Frisking: A well-defined SOP for candidate frisking will be implemented at all centres before entry.
  6. Pre-Exam Site Visits: District Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) will personally visit each exam centre. Centres will be sanitized before the exam.
  7. Deployment of Senior Officers: Senior civil service and police officers will be tasked with overseeing the preparation and execution of exams.
  8. Tight Coordination at the Top Level: The Chief Secretary of Assam, DGP of Assam Police, and NTA Director General will work in close coordination to plan and monitor the exams.
  9. Zero Tolerance Policy: Any malpractice will be dealt with strictly. Legal action will be taken against anyone found engaging in illegal activities.

Chief Minister Sarma assured that the Assam Government is fully committed to fair and smooth conduct of NEET and other competitive exams. These new steps are designed to raise the level of transparency and ensure equal opportunity for all candidates.

With NEET being one of the most crucial exams in the country, the state is determined to protect its sanctity by deploying all available resources and ensuring rigorous monitoring throughout the process.
