Amingaon, February 13, 2024: In a Landmark Verdict, the Kamrup District and Sessions Judge’s court handed down life imprisonment sentences to 10 individuals. The case dates back to 2009 when Bishnu Rabha and Pursi Rabha, a married couple, were tragically killed in Rajapara, Palashbari, under suspicion of witchcraft.
Case number 199/2009 was filed at Palashbari Police Station in connection with this appalling incident. Subsequently, the police arrested 10 individuals linked to the case: Sandeep Rabha, Prasen Rabha, Niku Rabha, Fatik Kachari, Niranjan Rabha, Bipul Rabha, Smt. Biki Rabha, Smt. Urmila Rabha, Smt. Malaya Rabha, and Smt. Jayamati Rabha.
The trial, conducted by the District and Sessions Judge, centered on sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. After a prolonged legal process spanning 15 years, the court reached a definitive conclusion on February 12, sentencing all 10 individuals to life imprisonment.
