Desk Report, February 13, 2024: In a grand gathering at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the enduring friendship between India and the UAE during the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event. The vibrant assembly, representing diverse regions of the UAE and India, echoed Modi’s sentiments.
Expressing gratitude to the massive crowd, Modi noted, “You’ve scripted history by joining us here. Although from various corners of the UAE and different Indian states, our hearts are united.” The event kicked off with the national anthems of both nations, setting a patriotic tone.
Highlighting the significance of the India-UAE camaraderie, Modi declared, “This is the moment to celebrate our friendship. In this historic stadium, every heartbeat resonates the sentiment – Long live Bharat-UAE friendship.” The fervor of the occasion was evident as chants of “Modi-Modi” reverberated through the stadium.
Speaking to the diaspora, Modi shared a familial connection, stating, “I’ve come to meet my family members, bringing the essence of your birthplace. The message from 140 crore people is clear – Bharat is proud of you.” The UAE hosts approximately 3.5 million Indian nationals, forming the largest expatriate community in the Gulf.
Reflecting on his inaugural visit in 2015, Modi nostalgically recalled the warm reception from the Emirati leadership. “In 2015, the world of diplomacy was new to me. The gracious welcome from the then Crown Prince, now President, and his brothers left an indelible mark,” Modi reminisced.
Before Modi’s address, the Indian national anthem resonated, setting a patriotic tone. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister initiated his visit to the UAE, aiming to inaugurate the Middle East’s largest Hindu temple and enhance trade and investment ties.
Looking back on the temple’s inception, Modi shared, “In 2015, when proposing the temple to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, he immediately agreed. Now, the time has come to inaugurate this grand (BAPS) temple.” The visit underscores the strong diplomatic and cultural bonds between India and the UAE, fostering a legacy of friendship.
