Desk Report, February 16, 2024: In response to persistent farmer protests and calls for implementing minimum support price (MSP) laws and broader agricultural reforms, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) jointly declared a nationwide ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh’ scheduled for February 16, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
During this Bharat Bandh, farmers are set to stage chakka bandh on main roads nationwide, while also planning to shut down Punjab’s highways for a concise four-hour period. The primary aim of the bandh is to shed light on the unmet promises from the central government during the 2020 protests, bringing attention to various issues affecting farmers and workers across the country.
Protesters are fervently urging the closure of essential services, including the supply of vegetables, village shops, agricultural activities, and rural works such as MNREGA projects. This collective action serves as a strategic move to amplify their voices and advocate for the fulfillment of long-overdue commitments.
