Assam Cabinet Greenlights Semiconductor Project and Development Council for Kiran Sheikh Community
Desk Report, March 11, 2024: In a cabinet meeting held on Sunday, a series of significant decisions were unveiled, laying the foundation for transformative initiatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate the semiconductor project in Jagiroad on March 13th, marking a crucial milestone.
Disclosing the outcomes of the meeting, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah highlighted the approval granted for the establishment of a development council for the Kiran Sheikh community. “Responding to the long-standing demand of the Kiran Sheikh community in Barak Valley, the cabinet has approved the creation of a development council,” Baruah stated.
He went on to announce that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone for the highly-anticipated semiconductor project in Jagiroad. The move signifies a significant stride toward technological advancement and economic growth in the region.

“The Kiran Sheikh community, residing in Barak Valley, has persistently advocated for the establishment of a development council. In alignment with similar councils for other communities, the cabinet has granted its approval,” Baruah added, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Notably, a substantial allocation of Rs 674.81 crore has been sanctioned for the establishment of Karimganj Medical College, underscoring the government’s prioritization of healthcare infrastructure. This allocation aims to bolster the healthcare system, ensuring better medical facilities and services for the citizens.
In a bid to enrich the cultural landscape, the cabinet has greenlit investments totaling Rs 131.71 crore for the Rang Ghar beauty project. Additionally, Rs 380.66 crore has been allocated for the Amingaon Open Stadium, emphasizing the government’s dedication to promoting cultural activities and sporting excellence.
These decisions reflect the administration’s commitment to comprehensive development, encompassing technological advancements, healthcare infrastructure, and cultural enrichment. The approval of the Kiran Sheikh Community Development Council is a noteworthy step toward fostering inclusive growth and addressing the specific needs of diverse communities in Assam.
