DRI’s Precision Operation Yields 61 kg Gold, Rs 13 Lakh Cash, and 19 Vehicles in Major Seizure
Desk Report, March 13, 2024: In a sweeping operation spanning Guwahati, Barpeta, Muzaffarpur, Araria, and Gorakhpur on March 12th and 13th, 2024, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) orchestrated a significant seizure. A staggering 61 kg of foreign-origin gold, along with Rs 13 lakh in cash and 19 vehicles, fell into the hands of DRI officers, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals, including the masterminds.
Acting on precise intelligence, DRI officers in Guwahati apprehended six syndicate members, recovering 22.74 kg of gold, Rs 13 lakh in cash, vehicles, and electronic items. Tracking a vehicle to Barpeta, Assam, DRI intercepted it, seizing 13.28 kg of smuggled gold and apprehending two more individuals.
Expanding the operation, DRI officers in Muzaffarpur intercepted a vehicle near Darbhanga, recovering 13.27 kg of gold. Simultaneously, in Gorakhpur, another vehicle was intercepted, yielding 11.79 kg of foreign-origin gold.

DRI officers in Araria, Bihar, intercepted nine cars equipped with secret cavities, unveiling the syndicate’s clandestine methods. Initial questioning revealed the syndicate’s modus operandi – smuggling gold through the Indo-Myanmar border, consolidating it in Guwahati, and further transporting it to cities like Delhi and Jaipur.
This operation, a testament to DRI’s strategic efforts, disrupts a significant gold smuggling network and underscores the agency’s commitment to curbing illicit activities. The arrested individuals, distributed across Guwahati, Muzaffarpur, and Gorakhpur, will face legal consequences as investigations continue to unfold.
