Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Arrested by Enforcement Directorate
Desk Report, March 21, 2024: In a significant development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on Thursday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with money laundering charges related to the excise policy case. This action follows the Delhi High Court’s decision today to deny any interim protection from coercive measures to Kejriwal.
Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had reportedly been evading summons from the ED for questioning regarding the aforementioned matter. Sources indicate that his legal team is actively seeking an urgent listing and hearing on the matter.
In response to the unfolding events, AAP workers staged a protest outside the residence of Arvind Kejriwal. At the same time, the ED team is reportedly present at Kejriwal’s residence for questioning.
Addressing the situation, AAP leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed his views, stating, “The central government is leveraging its influence to undermine a nascent party like AAP. I reiterate that while they may apprehend Arvind Kejriwal, they cannot suppress his ideology and vision. The more they resort to oppressive tactics against him, the more his ideas will resonate within society.”
The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings, with implications for both the political landscape in Delhi and the broader realm of Indian politics.
