Manipur Police Arrests Two Suspected Gang Members and Recovers Arms Cache in Imphal West District
Desk Report, April 01, 2024: On the evening of March 31, 2024, the Manipur Police made a significant breakthrough in their relentless pursuit against criminal activities plaguing the region. Acting on intelligence reports and meticulous surveillance, Police officers from Imphal West District apprehended Moirangthem Lanchenba Meetei, an individual allegedly affiliated with the notorious gang, Salailen Mapari (Kangleipak Defence Force). Alongside Meetei, authorities also detained a juvenile allegedly involved in criminal activities, thereby preventing their further participation in unlawful deeds.
The apprehension of Meetei and the juvenile, believed to be part of the nefarious Salailen Mapari gang, sheds light on the ongoing battle against organized crime and anti-social elements in the region. The gang, notorious for its involvement in various illicit activities including theft, extortion, and other nefarious deeds, has long been a target of Manipur Police efforts aiming to restore peace and security in Manipur.
Upon conducting a thorough search following the arrests, Manipur Police officers recovered a cache of incriminating evidence. Among the items seized were firearms, including a .32 pistol with a magazine and a 9mm pistol with ammunition, underscoring the dangerous arsenal at the disposal of criminal elements. Additionally, authorities seized a SBBL gun mounted with a telescope, further indicative of the gang’s preparedness for violence. Further, a Chinese hand grenade, wireless sets, and various paraphernalia associated with the Salailen Mapari (Kangleipak Defence Force) were also seized during the operation.
The recovery of distinctive insignia, including flags, clothing items, and letterheads bearing the emblem of Salailen Mapari, serves as damning evidence linking the apprehended individuals to the notorious gang. These items, signed by alleged leaders of the gang, namely Chairman H. Lalloiba and President O. Meetei, provide critical insights into the organizational structure and hierarchy of the criminal outfit.
Moreover, the seizure of motor vehicles, including a silver EECO Van and a Himalayan Royal Enfield motorcycle, highlights the gang’s mobility and operational capacity. Such assets are often utilized in the commission of crimes and facilitate swift escape from the scene of illicit activities.
In light of these developments, a case has been registered by the authorities for further investigation, underscoring the commitment of Manipur Police to ensure the swift and impartial dispensation of justice.
