Assam Rifles Foils Cross-Border Timber Smuggling, Seizes Goods Worth Rs 28.25 Lakh
Desk Report, April 01, 2024: In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles successfully foiled a cross-border smuggling attempt, seizing 3,324 cubic feet of timber valued at Rs 28.25 lakh. The operation took place at Z Choro in Kamjong District of Manipur.
Acting swiftly, the Assam Rifles intercepted trucks transporting the illicit timber and detained the drivers involved in the smuggling attempt. Following standard procedure, the confiscated timber and the apprehended drivers were handed over to the Forest Beat Officer of Kamjong district for further necessary action.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the smuggling attempt, and further legal actions are expected to be taken against the culprits involved.
Local officials have praised the timely and effective intervention by the Assam Rifles, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in combating illegal activities and preserving the environment.
