Assam Government Announces Localised Public Holidays for Lok Sabha Polls
Desk Report, April 02, 2024: The Assam government said there will be special public holidays in different areas during the Lok Sabha elections. The governor’s office made an announcement about this.
Here’s when the public holidays will be:
– April 19
– April 26
– May 7
These holidays are for places where voting happens on these days. The law they’re following is from 1881.
When and Where is the Voting?
– April 19: Voting will happen in 5 places – Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Lakhimpur, and Sonitpur.
– April 26: Voting will take place in 5 more places – Silchar, Karimganj, Diphu, Nagaon, and Darrang-Udalguri.
– May 7: The last 4 places to vote are Guwahati, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Kokrakhjar.
What’s Closed on Voting Days?
The government has said that many places will be closed on these voting days. This includes:
– All government and private offices
– PRIs
– Urban Local Bodies
– Educational Institutions
– Business and commercial establishments
– Banks
– Tea gardens
– Industries
