Amit Shah Asserts Modi Government’s Success in Border Security Amidst Election Rally in Lakhimpur
Desk Report, April 09, 2024: Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a spirited address at an election rally in Lakhimpur, highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shah underscored the government’s success in securing the country’s border with Bangladesh, effectively halting infiltration.
During his speech, Shah made a striking assertion regarding China’s territorial integrity under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized that not a “single inch” of Indian land had been encroached upon by China, contrasting this with the perceived shortcomings of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s response to the 1962 Chinese aggression, particularly in relation to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Shah attributed the success in border security to the Modi government’s policies, suggesting a significant reduction in infiltration along the Assam-Bangladesh border. He highlighted the role of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in curbing such activities, indicating a marked improvement since the Modi government came into power at the Centre.
In a scathing critique of the previous Congress administration in Assam, Shah alleged injustice and a lack of effective governance, particularly concerning the handling of violent movements and insurgency-related incidents, which resulted in the loss of numerous lives. Conversely, he touted the achievements of the Modi government, citing peace accords and significant surrenders of youths involved in insurgent activities.
Shah also addressed the issue of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, noting its partial withdrawal from 80 percent of the state’s areas. He juxtaposed this with what he portrayed as unfulfilled promises of the Assam Accord by previous administrations, contrasting it with the swift implementation of the Bodo Accord under the BJP’s governance.
Taking aim at the Congress manifesto, Shah accused it of favoring Muslim personal law, while also highlighting initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government, such as the prevention of child marriages under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership and the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand.
In a bid to rally support for the NDA candidates in the Northeast, Shah stressed the region’s pivotal role in the nation’s overall development. He urged voters to choose between the options presented – voting for Rahul Gandhi and the INDI Alliance or supporting the Modi-led BJP for a third term at the Centre.
In conclusion, Shah reiterated the government’s success in defending India’s territorial integrity against Chinese encroachment, citing the example of Doklam as a testament to the Modi government’s resolute stance on national security.
