Unsettled Weather Forecasted for Assam: RMC Issues Warnings
Desk Report, April 14, 2024: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a statement regarding the anticipated weather conditions in Assam, stemming from a cyclonic circulation over North Bangladesh and adjoining areas, coupled with moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal. According to the RMC, the forecast spans from April 14 to April 18, 2024, during which Assam is expected to encounter varying degrees of unsettled weather.
The forecast indicates isolated to fairly widespread occurrences of rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the state. Particularly, heavy rainfall is foreseen on April 16 and 17, prompting the RMC to issue cautionary advisories to the residents.
Warnings have been delineated for each day of the forecast period:
– April 14: Anticipated light to moderate rainfall at isolated locales, alongside thunderstorm and lightning occurrences in districts including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, Hojai, East Karbianglong, and Golaghat.
– April 15: Similar predictions of light to moderate rainfall at isolated places and possible thunderstorm and lightning occurrences over several districts, namely Baksa, Nalbari, Bajali, Tamulpur, Kamrup(M), Darang, Udalguri, East Karbianglong, West Karbianglong, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, and Lakhimpur.
– April 16: The forecast entails light to moderate rainfall at numerous locations, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Darang, and Udalguri. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur sporadically across several districts.
– April 17: A continuation of light to moderate rainfall at various places, with isolated heavy rainfall predicted in Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Majuli, and Dibrugarh. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected in isolated pockets of multiple districts.
– April 18: The forecast indicates light to moderate rainfall across several locations, accompanied by possible thunderstorms and lightning occurrences in isolated areas of Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagarh, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
