Kamrup District Implements Dry Day Mandate for Meghalaya Elections
Guwahati, April 16, 2024: In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya, a crucial announcement has emerged from the Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate’s office. From April 17 at 4 pm until the conclusion of polling on April 19, a Dry Day mandate will be in effect across the district, imposing a strict ban on alcohol consumption, distribution, and sale.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate has initiated stringent measures to ensure a Dry Day during the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya.
Starting April 17 at 4 pm until the polling ends on April 19, a complete prohibition on alcohol activities will be enforced across the district.
Both wholesale and retail liquor outlets will be shuttered under the directives issued by the district administration.
Emphasizing the importance of compliance, severe consequences await any individual or establishment breaching the imposed restrictions.
Violators of the enforced Dry Day will face legal actions under Section 135(c) of the People’s Representatives Act, 1951, and the Excise Act.
The district administration warns of strict enforcement and penalties for those found violating the prohibition.
