Biswanath Police Crackdown on Gambling; Three Suspects Apprehended
Biswanath, April 29, 2024: In a crackdown on illegal gambling, Biswanath police raided Kumlia area, resulting in the arrest of three persons in connection with the heinous act.
Biswanath Chariali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bholaram Bora conducted a targeted operation suspecting a three-member gambling gang.
According to reports, Kumlia area was infested with rampant gambling, affecting the community negatively. The insidious impact of these activities extended to individuals from all walks of life including daily wage labourers, who were lured into the destructive cycle of gambling, at great cost lost them.
Local cases also reveal dire consequences for some locals, who were forced to seek employment in other provinces due to economic pressure due to gambling Besides, examples of property seizures and sales emerged as dangerous products that promoted gambling habits.
The earlier efforts of the Biswanath Sadar Police Station were temporarily halted, and the gambling activities were temporarily halted. But the resurgence of gambling activity, especially in minority communities, has spurred law enforcement action.
During the recent raids, police seized gambling paraphernalia and cash, while they managed to arrest Hazrat Ali and Azizur Rahman of Kumlia Part III and Mahendra Singh of Kumlia. Despite several other suspects involved in the activity escaped, Biswanath police actively pursue and interrogate leads.
