Chapar Police Crack Down on Counterfeit Currency Operation, Seize Rs 2 Crore Worth of Fake Notes
Chapar, May 12, 2024: In a concerted effort to combat the circulation of counterfeit currency, authorities from Chapar Police Station launched a successful raid in Barghola, Dhirghat, Chapar. Acting on valuable intelligence, the operation, spearheaded by Officer-in-Charge Dipjyoti Engti and Chapar Circle Inspector, targeted areas suspected of harboring illicit activities.
During the meticulously planned raid conducted last night, Chapar Police apprehended an individual identified as Sahinur Islam, a resident of Dhirghat in Chapar, in possession of counterfeit currency totaling approximately Rs 2 crore. The seized counterfeit notes comprised denominations of Rs 2,000, Rs 500, and Rs 200.
The proactive measures by Chapar Police have come amidst rising concerns over the prevalence of counterfeit currency in Assam, particularly in rural regions. Reports suggest that unsuspecting citizens have fallen victim to fraudulent schemes, with miscreants exploiting superstition and deception to perpetrate their crimes.
It is alleged that the counterfeit notes, with a face value of Rs 2 crore, were being traded for a mere Rs 7 lakh, underscoring the magnitude of the criminal enterprise.
Following the arrest, Chapar Police intensified their efforts, conducting further raids at multiple locations based on information provided by the detained individual. Interrogations are ongoing as authorities delve deeper into the intricate web of counterfeit currency operations.
