Prime Minister Modi Files Nomination from Varanasi, Accompanied by Prominent Leaders
Desk Report, May 15, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally submitted his nomination for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat at the district collectorate on May 14, accompanied by a distinguished assembly of political leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The four proposers endorsing Prime Minister Modi’s nomination were notable figures: Pandit Gyaneshwar Shastri, involved in the Ram temple consecration ceremony; Baijnath Patel; Lalchand Kushwaha; and Sanjay Sonkar. Expressing his profound connection with his constituency, PM Modi remarked, “My relationship with my Kashi is amazing, inseparable, and incomparable. All I can say is that it cannot be expressed in words.”
Prior to the nomination filing, the Prime Minister engaged in a series of ceremonial activities. He performed ‘Ganga Pujan’ at Dashashwamedh Ghat, thereafter embarking on a cruise to NaMo Ghat. His spiritual journey continued with a visit to the Kaal Bhairav temple before proceeding to the district collectorate.
On the preceding day, PM Modi conducted a roadshow in Varanasi, echoing a similar event he held prior to filing his nomination for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Accompanying him were Chief Minister Adityanath and BJP state president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh. The event saw a significant turnout of party supporters and members of the public.
The nomination filing event was marked by the presence of several key figures from the Union Cabinet and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, and chiefs of various NDA member parties attended. The gathering included Chief Ministers Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh), Vishnu Deo Sai (Chhattisgarh), Eknath Shinde (Maharashtra), Bhajanlal Sharma (Rajasthan), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana), Pramod Sawant (Goa), Prem Singh Tamang (Sikkim), and Manik Saha (Tripura).
In addition to the state leaders, prominent figures from NDA constituent parties such as RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan, Apna Dal (S) president Anupriya Patel, and SBSP president Om Prakash Rajbhar were present. Following the nomination, PM Modi briefly interacted with the assembled leaders and supporters.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister visited the Rudraksh Convention Centre, where he engaged with local party workers, reinforcing his commitment to the constituency.
Varanasi is set to vote in the final phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for June 1. The election holds significant importance as the Prime Minister seeks re-election from a seat he has represented since 2014.
