Cachar Police and Assam Rifles Seize Heroin Worth Over Rs 3 Crore in Coordinated Operation
Silchar, May 24, 2024: In a decisive strike against the burgeoning drug menace, the Cachar Police, in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, seized a substantial quantity of heroin valued at over Rs 3 crore on May 23. The operation, meticulously coordinated based on precise intelligence inputs, was conducted in the Hawaithang area under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station.
During the operation, authorities recovered 418 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 3 crore. The contraband was found in 30 plastic soap cases, meticulously concealed to evade detection. Mira Hussain, a resident of Uttar Lailapur village in Cachar district, was apprehended at the scene in connection with the smuggling activities.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing collaborative efforts between the Cachar Police and the Assam Rifles to curb the trafficking of illegal narcotics in the region. The Assam Rifles, often referred to as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast,’ have been at the forefront of numerous anti-drug operations aimed at eradicating the scourge of narcotics from the northeastern states of India.
Following the protocols mandated by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the accused was promptly arrested, and the heroin was seized. This operation not only highlights the vigilance and dedication of the enforcement agencies but also serves as a stern warning to those involved in the illegal drug trade.
