Additional NDRF Team Deployed to Barak Valley Amid Worsening Flood Crisis
Guwahati, June 01, 2024: In response to the escalating flood crisis in Barak Valley, an additional team from the 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to the region. The team was airlifted from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar, Guwahati, and transported to Silchar Airport in Cachar. This newly deployed unit will join the existing NDRF personnel already stationed in the flood-affected areas, providing immediate assistance and support to manage and mitigate the impacts of the flooding.
The 1st Battalion of the NDRF has been actively involved in supporting district and state administrations in their flood response efforts. Their commitment was recently highlighted in a significant rescue operation conducted yesterday in the villages of Kandhulimari and Baliram Pathar, located in Doboka and Hojai respectively. During this operation, 149 individuals were rescued, including 47 children and one pregnant woman, demonstrating the force’s dedication to saving lives and ensuring the safety of residents.
The deployment of additional NDRF teams underscores the severity of the flood situation in Barak Valley and the urgent need for enhanced rescue and relief operations. The coordinated efforts of the NDRF, district, and state administrations are crucial in addressing the immediate needs of the affected populations and mitigating further damage.
As floodwaters continue to rise, the presence of these specialized teams is expected to provide critical support in rescue operations, medical aid, and logistical assistance, reinforcing the region’s resilience against the ongoing natural disaster.
